Big Second Quarter Leads to Knights Win over Simpson

INDIANOLA, IA—A big second quarter offense, including a 48-yard interception for a touchdown, pushed the Wartburg Knights past the Simpson College Storm in the regular season finale for both squads.
 
The Knights defeated the Storm 55-23, with neither team scoring in the final quarter of action. The Knights scored 41 points in the second quarter, taking a 48-0 lead at the break.

Scoring Plays
  • A 70-yard pass from Jace Moore to Drake George saw the Knights score with 5:15 remaining in the first quarter to go up 7-0.
  • Hunter Clasen scored on an 8-yard rush in the second quarter, starting off a big scoring quarter for the Knights.
  • George caught a 57-yard pass from Moore nearly two minutes later, finding the endzone for a second time with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter.
  • With 3:50 remaining in the quarter, Ben Bryant took the ball for a 3-yard rushing touchdown.
  • Trent Roling caught his second interception of the season, taking the ball 48-yard for a touchdown with 2:55 remaining in the first half.
  • Clasen added a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 1:19 remaining before Bryant had a 12-yard rushing touchdown with 1:01 left in the first half.
  • The Storm scored on an 8-yard pass with 7:15 remaining in the third quarter, finding their first points of the day.
  • The Storm had a 53-yard pass nearly two minutes later, as the Storm completed the two-point conversion on both touchdowns.
  • Austin Griffin caught a 48-yard pass from Nile McLaughlin with 3:29 remaining in the third quarter as the Knights took a 55-16 lead.
  • The Storm would throw one last touchdown, a 6-yard pass to Waverly native, Joe McNally.
A Look at the Numbers
  • The Knights had 431 total yards of offense, with four rushing touchdowns.
  • The Knights rushed for 198 yards on 40 attempts and three touchdowns.
  • Defensively, the Knights held the Storm to 358 yards.
  • In the passing game, Moore was 9-of-14 for 174 yards and two touchdowns. McLaughlin was 5-of-9 for 59 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown pass.
  • Clasen led the Knights on the ground, rushing for 100 yards, two touchdowns, and averaging 7.1 yards/rush.
  • George led the Knights in receptions with six receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Defensively, Antonio Santillan led the Knights with 12 tackles. The Knights defense had 74 stops, with Nate Link and Riley Konrady having seven stops each.
  • Link and Roling recorded interceptions in the game. Link return the ball for 55 yards on an interception, while Roling took his interception into the endzone for 48-yards.
  • Roling added four pass breakups, while two Knights were credited with quarterback hurries.
