ORANGE, Calif—Macy Harris matched a career-high 16 points as the No. 13/14 Wartburg Knights women's basketball squad built on a strong first quarter to defeat Chapman University this afternoon. The Knights posted a 70-60 victory over the Panthers on the first day of a two-game road trip for the Knights.
Hannah Anderson and Harris opened the contest with back-to-back three pointers.
Taylor Runchey joined in on the scoring action with a jumper as the Knights took an 8-0 lead with 8:46 left to play in the first quarter.
Maggie Wilkins hit a basket to give the Knights a ten-point advantage as the Panthers came within 5 points. Anderson hit her second of four shots from beyond the arc with 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter, giving the Knights a 12-point lead.
Eight of the first ten points of the second quarter came at the free throw line, with the Knights making a single trip to the line. Runchey, who went 3-of-4 from the line, made both free throw attempts before the Knights lead got trimmed to four. Young would score eight of the Knights final 14 points of the first half, including back-to-back three-pointers.
An opening free throw from Harris start the Knights on a 15-4 run to start the third quarter.
Brea Dillavou and
Sara Faber got in on the three-point scoring action, adding back-to-back baskets within 30 seconds of each other to build the Knights lead to 17. The Knights would score four three-pointers in the third quarter. The Knights and Panthers traded baskets in the closing minutes, as the Knights took a 12-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Wilkins and the Knights kept cruise control on, as Wilkins hit a basket seconds after returning to action to give the Knights a 17-point edge. The Knights were held without a basket for nearly seven minutes until Young found a point at the free throw line. The Knights final six points of the contest came from the free throw line, as Harris went 4-for-4 in the series.
Checking out the Numbers
Harris led the Knights in scoring, going 3-of-6 from field goal range and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Harris matched a career-high 16 points and recorded her first double-double of the year (10 rebounds).
Anderson added 12 points with four made shots from behind the arc, while Young shot 4-of-9 from the field for 12 points.
Murphy, who was held to seven points (3-of-12 FG), added 10 boards as the Knights collected 46 rebounds.
Overall, the Knights shot 35 percent from the field, while adding 11 shots from behind the arc (39 percent). The Knights missed only four free throws in the contest, shooting 81 percent (17-of-21). The Knights had 10 assists, 18 turnovers, and three steals in the contest.
Knights in the Poll
The Knights fell in the polls this week but remained inside the top-15. The Knights, who previously held the No. 5 spot, sit at No. 13 in the D3hoops.com poll. The Knights hold onto the No. 14 spot in the WBCA poll, dropping six spots.

Concluding their California trip, the Knights travel to the University of the Redlands on Dec. 20 for a 2 p.m. PST tip-off.
