WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg softball will open its 2021 campaign with an eight-game weekend trip to the states of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. The Knights will begin their journey through the south on Thursday, Feb. 25 with a doubleheader against Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. starting at 12:30 p.m. EST.
In addition to Thursday's matches, the Orange & Black will battle Piedmont College (DH) on Friday, Feb. 26 in Demorest, Ga., followed by games against Huntingdon College and Mount St. Joseph University on both Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 28 in Montgomery, Ala.Â

SEASON OUTLOOK
A year ago, the Knights got off to a solid start when they went 9-3 during their spring-break trip to Florida before the season came to an abrupt end due to COVID-19. Wartburg was ranked as high as No. 21 during the 2020 season, which marked the first time the Orange & Black cracked the national top 25 rankings since 2009.Â
During the shortened year, senior
Leah Campos paced the Knights with a batting average of .486 in 35 at-bats. Fellow senior
Kaci Sherwood led the team in RBIs with 15 while junior
Jenna Levine also reached double figures with 10.Â
On the mound, junior
Madison Hiestand tallied a 3-0 record with an ERA of .95 and earned 13 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched. Senior
Maddie Rog struck out a team-best 29 batters and posted a 4-2 ledger for Wartburg.Â
