MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Wartburg softball began its two-day trip in Alabama with a 1-1 record when it suffered a 6-3 defeat against Mount St. Joseph University and then came away victorious against Huntingdon College in a 11-3 five-inning match.

During the first game of the day, the Knights totaled just three hits while sophomore
Carly Salutric did the most work on the mound with three innings pitched and an ERA of two.
Wartburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning but the Lions exploded for three runs in the second to take a 3-1 advantage. The Orange & Black climbed back into the contest with a two-run second but surrendered four tallies in the final four frames and were defeated for the first time this season.

Sydney Illg paced the Knights with two runs scored on one hit while senior

After the two programs played to a 1-1 tie in the first, the Knights erupted for six tallies in the second inning to take a commanding 7-1 advantage. Wartburg allowed just two scores in the final three innings and took home a 11-3 victory to move to 3-1 on the year.
The bats heated up in the second game of the day when the Knights totaled 10 hits and posted nine RBIs. Wartburg was led by Illg, Sherwood, Campos and
Sydney Fellows who all recorded two hits in the contest. The Grimes, Iowa native Illg recorded a team-best four RBIs while Milo, Iowa native Sherwood was close behind with three.
On the mound,
Tarah Wehde remained perfect in her collegiate career with her second straight victory. The freshman threw five innings and allowed just as many hits and one earned run.

The Knights (3-1, 0-0 A-R-C) will conclude their nonconference road trip through the south with a rematch against both Mount St. Joseph (3-3, 0-0 HCAC) and Huntingdon College tomorrow Sunday, Feb. 28 in Montgomery, Ala. The first game against Huntingdon (1-6, 0-0 USA South) is set to begin at 10 a.m. EST followed by the contest against the Lions at 12 p.m. EST.
