The Knights, who are now ranked tied for No. 20 in the latest NFCA D3 poll, swept UW-Whitewater last weekend with scores of 9-3 and 4-3 as head coach
Jamie Mueller notched her 100th career victory. In her sixth season, Mueller became the third head coach to reach 100 career wins at Wartburg.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Knights' offense scored nine runs off eight hits, scoring two runs in the first, third, and sixth innings as well as a three-run fourth inning. After UWW opened the game in the top of the first with a 1-0 lead, the Knights answered with a two-run single from Campos to claim a 2-1 advantage. Wartburg's bats produced again in the third and fourth innings, including two-RBI doubles from Sherwood and
Sydney Fellows.
Maddie Rog received the win and improved her record on the year to 3-1 in the pitcher's circle, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Ashley Nelson pitched a scoreless final 1.2 innings.
In the second contest, the Orange & Black saw themselves down 2-1 in the seventh inning. However, the Knights rallied to tie the score at 2-2 to extend the contest to extra innings. UWW scored in the eighth to reclaim a one-run lead at 3-2. In the bottom half, Sherwood led off with a double and
Tarah Wehde followed with a walk. A sacrifice bunt from
Olivia Brecht then put the runners into scoring position. After a Warhawk error,
Reegan Deputy scored to tie the game. Up next,
Jordan Swiatkowski played the hero with an RBI single to score Wehde as the Knights' walked off with the 4-3 win. Wehde started in the pitcher's circle, throwing five innings. After relief from
Lauren Reicks,
Carly Salutric ended up receiving the win upon relieving Reicks for the final two batters in the eighth.
