No. 14 Knights Host Spartans for Conference and Home Opener

WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 14-ranked Wartburg College softball team is set to host a three-game series versus the University of Dubuque March 20-21 at Lynes Field for its 2021 American Rivers Conference and home opener.

The Knights and Spartans kick off the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. Wartburg and Dubuque will then conclude the series with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m.

Spectators are permitted to attend Wartburg outdoor athletic events and are required to follow campus masking and social distancing guidelines. Fans must all wear face masks outdoors when we cannot absolutely guarantee a physical distance of at least six feet from others. Details HERE

LAST TIME OUT
Wartburg improved its record to 9-1 after a pair of shutout victories over Washington University-St. Louis on March 13, shutting out the Bears 9-0 and 10-0.

Starting pitchers Maddie Rog and Ashley Nelson both pitched complete game shutouts while Sydney Illg tallied five hits and Kaci Sherwood recorded six runs batted in.

IN THE POLLS
The Knights, previously ranked tied for No. 20 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 Poll, moved up to No. 14 in the latest (March 17) rankings.

MUELLER REACHES 100 WINS
On March 7, Wartburg swept the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Bettendorf, Iowa. After the game one victory, the Knights rallied for an extra inning walk-off win during game two for head coach Jamie Mueller's 100th career win. In her sixth season, Mueller becomes the third head coach to reach 100 career wins at Wartburg. 

KNIGHTS TABBED SECOND IN A-R-C PRESEASON POLL
The American Rivers Conference released the 2021 Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday, Feb. 26, with Wartburg selected to finish second in the league standings, as voted on by the A-R-C coaches. The Knights received 56 points, finishing just four behind Central College.
