Wartburg Set For Battle Against Division II Upper Iowa

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg women's tennis will return to the court on Monday, March 22 against a NCAA DII opponent in Upper Iowa University at 4:30 p.m. at the Meirink Family Tennis Facility in Waverly. 

The Knights and Peacocks have not met since the 2015 season and Wartburg holds a 30-8 all-time series advantage over Upper Iowa. 

The Orange & Black (12-3, 7-1 A-R-C) recorded their second win of the spring season last Saturday, March 20 when they took down the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 9-0. Junior Madison Overmann headlined the contest with her win at the No. 1 singles match and she doubled up her win total with a victory at the No. 1 doubles position with sophomore Olivia Phillips. The Waverly native Phillips recorded her team-high 10th victory in singles and improved to 10-4 on the year. Freshman Georgia Nissen tallied her second collegiate doubles victory and third in singles. 

Phillips paces the Knights this season in singles play with 10 victories while Overmann has racked up six wins at the No. 1 position. Phillips has duplicated her win total in doubles while Overmann has nine victories and Alyssa Guse is close behind with eight. As a team, Wartburg is 30-12 in doubles and 56-30 in singles play. 

The Peacocks come into the contest with a 1-6 overall record and a 1-4 tally in conference play. Their lone victory came against the University of Minnesota Crookston, defeating them 7-0. Freshman Varvara Ogorodnikova leads the team in singles with a 3-3 record at the No. 1 position. As a whole, Upper Iowa is 5-13 in doubles and 9-27 in singles.
