WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg women's tennis will embark on a three-game road trip this weekend when it clashes with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, March 27 at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively and St. Catherine University on Sunday, March 28 at 12:30 p.m.
The Orange & Black (13-3) come into the weekend following a 5-4 victory against DII Upper Iowa University on Monday, March 22. The pair of
Madison Overmann and
Olivia Phillips improved to 4-0 in doubles while
Georgia Nissen and
Rebekah Corson also remained undefeated with a 3-0 record. Freshman Nissen and senior Corson pushed their season win total over .500 when they downed their opponents at the No. 4 and five single positions. Freshman
Bailey VanDusseldorp improved to 6-1 on the year in singles with a win at the sixth spot.
The Waverly native Phillips leads the Knights in singles play with a 10-5 record and in doubles with a 11-4 ledger. Overmann is close behind in the doubles competition with a 10-2 tally and has played at the No. 1 singles position all year and has totaled six wins. As a team, Wartburg is 59-33 in singles and 32-13 in doubles.
The Falcons of UW-River Falls has played just one game this season and suffered a 7-0 defeat against Winona State. A year ago, the Falcons finished with a 4-7 overall record and 2-4 tally in the WIAC.
Gustavus enters the contest with an unblemished 6-0 record and 1-0 ledger in the MIAC. Anna Stutz leads the program with a 4-0 tally in singles play while Ginger Valentine has appeared in the most matches at the No. 1 position and has totaled three wins and one loss. Hannah Borgh is the dominate force for Gustavus in doubles as she is 4-1 on the season. Gustavus, as a team, is 30-4 in singles and 14-3 in doubles.
St. Catherine is yet to lose a contest this season as they currently hold a 4-0 record. Bri Dorr is 4-0 at the No. 2 singles position while Kelsey Dorr is 3-0 at the No. 1 spot. The sisters have also been dominate in doubles as the pair is yet to drop a game. The Wildcats are 19-5 in singles and 9-3 in doubles.
