Knights Take Two from Prairie Wolves Friday

WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 16-ranked Wartburg College softball team earned a pair of American Rivers Conference wins on Friday afternoon at Lynes Field, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University 5-4 and 6-5.

With their four and fifth consecutive victories, the Knights improve to 15-3 overall and 6-2 during A-R-C competition.

Wartburg 5, Nebraska Wesleyan 4
Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, the knights rallied and walked off the opener of the series after Ella Link was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, collecting the game-winning RBI to score Olivia Brecht for the 5-4 win.

Maddie Rog earned the win to improve her record to 6-2 on the year, pitching 2.2 innings in relief of starter Ashley Nelson.

Lauren Frerichs and Leah Campos produced the four of the five Wartburg runs. Campos and the Knights got the scoring started in the first inning, gaining a 2-0 lead off a Campos single, scoring Brecht and Frerichs.

Frerichs was 3-for-4 at the plate, notching an RBI double in the fourth inning and tying the game at 4-4 with a leadoff homer in the seventh, her third of the year.

Wartburg 6, Nebraska Wesleyan 5
Starting pitcher Tarah Wehde held the Prairie Wolves scoreless through four innings until the visitors' bats had some push back in the fifth inning.

The Knights claimed a 6-0 lead after four innings, scoring a pair off of Kaci Sherwood's A-R-C leading ninth home run of the season, an RBI groundout from Campos, and RBI singles from Link and Brecht.

NWU cut the Wartburg lead in half, scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Madison Hiestand came in to relieve Wehde and was followed by 1.1 innings pitched from Maddie Rog, who earned the save.
