WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg women's tennis will compete in the American Rivers Conference NCAA Automatic Qualifier Tournament on Friday, April 30 at 4 p.m. and will match up against Simpson College in the semifinal contest. The No. 2 seeded Knights received a first-round bye while the No. 3 Storm took down No. 6 Coe College 5-0 on Tuesday, April 27 in the quarterfinals.
The tournament will be hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa as they were awarded the top seed in the event. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic berth to the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Knights have won one regular-season title back in the 2018-19 season but are still searching for their first tournament championship.
The Orange & Black (14-7, 7-1 A-R-C) are currently on a four-game losing streak with their last victory coming on March 27. The program did compete against Central College in an exhibition match last week and won the contest 7-2. Wartburg and Simpson met back on Friday, Sept. 25 and the Knights downed the Storm, 8-1 in Waverly.
Sophomore
Olivia Phillips leads the Knights with an 11-9 ledger in both doubles and singles.
Madison Overmann is close behind in the doubles competition with a 10-7 tally and has played at the No. 1 singles position all year and has totaled seven wins. As a team, Wartburg is 66-56 in singles and 35-25 in doubles.
Simpson College
Simpson comes into the contest following a 5-0 victory over Central in the first round of the A-R-C tournament and has totaled an 11-6 record this season. Anna Wanek paces Simpson with a perfect 19-0 tally at the No. 1 singles position and a 13-4 ledger at No. 1 doubles. Megan Grubb, Emily King and Donnie Kinghorn all have registered at least 10 wins this year. As a whole, Simpson is 70-44 in singles and 26-25 in doubles.
