WashU 7, Wartburg 1
The first contest of the day featured a pair of delays, first a short lightning delay followed by a 2.5 hour rain delay in which the game was halted in the ninth inning.
A six-run fourth inning made the difference for the Bears' game one victory, scoring six off six hits and one Wartburg error.
The Knights' sole run of the game came during the seventh, a
Bryce Butler RBI single.
Joey Ciero took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings with five earned runs.
Will Armstrong pitched four solid innings in relief, allowing one earned run.
WashU 9, Wartburg 3
In game two the Knights got off to a good start, answering a one-run first for WashU with two runs in the bottom half.
Wartburg took an early 2-1 lead as
Keaton Gray scored on a wild pitch along with a
Ben DeKruyf RBI single that scored Goodhue.
The visitors responded with runs in the second through fourth innings to claim a 5-2 lead.
Wartburg trimmed the Bears' lead to 5-3 in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded,
Parker Ridge reached on a fielder's choice to score Cole Wessing. However, it was the closest the Knights would cut into the WashU advantage as a trio of Bears' relievers held the Knights scoreless through the final four innings while the offense plated four more runs.
Darren Kilpatrick started on the mound and went four innings, allowing five earned runs to concede the loss.
