Wartburg Heads to Loras for A-R-C Quarterfinals

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will travel to Dubuque, Iowa for a matchup against Loras College at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the American Rivers Conference Automatic Qualifying tournament at the Tucker Tennis Courts.

The tournament semifinals and finals will be hosted by Luther College, who took the regular season conference title. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. Wartburg has won one regular-season title and are still searching for its first tournament championship.

The Knights (10-12, 4-4 A-R-C) are coming off a 1-1 week that saw them defeat Buena Vista University 9-0 and suffer a 6-3 loss against Loras. The Orange & Black enter the A-R-C tournament with the fifth overall seed and will have a rematch against the fourth seeded Duhawks.

Junior Lucas Huffman leads the conference and team with 17 wins at the No. 1 singles position. The junior is also just one victory away from breaking the school record of most career wins at the No. 1 singles spot. Freshman Cade Davis has had a promising start to his career with a 14-6 tally in singles. Nile Petersen and Jared Hefel have also surpassed the 10-win plateau this season.

In doubles, Huffman has been just as dominate with a 16-6 ledger at the No. 1 position. His counterpart for most of the year, freshman Jackson Eells, has posted a record of 15-6. As a team, Wartburg is 70-61 in singles and 35-31 in doubles.

Loras College
The Duhawks come into the contest with a 10-6 overall record and a 5-3 conference ledger. Last week, Loras split its matches with a win over the Knights and a 9-0 defeat against Luther.

Eian Coad paces Loras with a 13-5 tally in singles, mostly at the No. 6 position. Kevin Blomquist has totaled nine wins and six losses at the No. 1 singles spot. Thomas Kampmier, Tommy Linkenheld, Riley Colins and Connor Pivnicka all have reached double figures in the win column for doubles. As a whole, Loras is 33-24 in doubles and 65-45 in singles.
