No. 15 Knights Fall to Coe in A-R-C Title Game

WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 15-ranked Wartburg College softball team fell by a score of 6-4 to Coe College Saturday afternoon at Lynes Field as the Kohawks clinched the 2021 American Rivers Conference Regular Season Championship.

With the win, Coe took the season series victory after a doubleheader split on Friday set up a winner take all for the league regular season title Saturday. Voted on by conference coaches, the A-R-C automatic bid will be awarded to the regular season conference champion, out of the 24-game conference schedule adopted for this season only.

Coe (23-11, 18-6 A-R-C) receives the No. 1 seed and Wartburg (26-8, 17-7 A-R-C) the No. 2 seed for the A-R-C Tournament next week. The Knights will host a pod of the tournament May 13-14, welcoming No. 3 Central College, No. 6 Nebraska Wesleyan, and No. 7 University of Dubuque. The tournament championship will take place May 15-16 at the highest seed remaining.

Coe 6, Wartburg 4
The Kohawks, riding their momentum from the comeback win during game two yesterday, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five innings.

Megan Weber's first of two home runs in the fifth inning was a two-run shot over the center field fence to give Coe the five-run advantage.

Wartburg answered in the bottom half, starting a rally with a Madison Stoaks leadoff single. She came around to score when guided by a Sydney Illg single and a sacrifice fly from Olivia Brecht to open the scoring for the home team.

A three-run homer by Tarah Wehde, her eighth of the season and second of the weekend, trimmed Coe's lead to 5-4.

Coe added another in the seventh off Weber's second homer of the game while pitcher Hannah Ausenhus retired the Knights to earn the save.

Ashley Nelson suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle for the Knights, conceding three earned runs in three innings pitched. She finishes the regular season with a 10-2 record.
