NORTHFIELD, MN – Kolby Fahner scored his first collegiate goal on Tuesday, Sept. 21 as men's soccer was defeated on the road 6-1 by St. Olaf College.
The matchup featured two ranked teams in region IX according to the United Soccer Coaches regional poll, with Wartburg at #3 and St. Olaf at #7.
The Oles went on the offensive attack, scoring five goals in the first half against the Knights defense. The Oles got the first score of the game in the sixth minute of action and never looked back. One Oles' goal would come from a corner kick take at the midway mark of the half and another goal from a penalty kick.
The second half saw less offense, but was a more even half. The Oles would tack another goal to make it 6-0, but the Knights kept fighting. In the 81st minute Fahner would beat the keeper high for a goal off a great feed from
Mason Lucas. This is the first goal for Lucas this season and in his career for the Knights. The assist is also Lucas' first of the season and his career.
The Knights were outshot 11-2 and trailed in shots on goal 9-1 in the first half, but would finish the match trailing only 16-11 in shots and 13-5 in shots on goal after a hard-fought second half.
Brennon Woody got the start and had five saves in the first half. The Orange & Black made a goalie switch at half and put
Bo McMahon in. McMahon would play the whole second half and recorded two saves.
