WAVERLY, Iowa – #13 women's soccer opened American Rivers Conference play with a 4-1 win over the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Salzwedel Field. The Knights move to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in A-R-C play.
Dubuque got the action started in the 24
th minute in the first half with a goal from Jordan Cadena that found the top of the net to make it 1-0 Dubuque.
Over the next four minutes of game play, the Orange & Black saw
Katie Berglund (2) and
Kate Luers put the Knights up 3-1. Berglund scored in the 25
th and 29
th minute on unassisted goals, while Luers scored in the 28
th minute off a great pass from
Joy Smith.
The goals mark Berglund's second and third of the season and the third for Luers.
The score would stay 3-1 until the second half, when
Emily Fontana scored a goal in the 65
th minute off a pass from
Sarah Campbell to make the score 4-1. The assist is Campbell's third of the 2021 campaign.
The Orange & Black outshot the Spartans 20-2 and had the advantage in shots on goal 9-1. In the second half the Knights allowed 0 shots. Wartburg also dominated corner kicks with a 5-0 edge.

The Knights are back in action Saturday, Oct. 2 for an A-R-C matchup with Coe College at Salzwedel Field with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
