ST. PAUL, Minn. – Wartburg men's basketball (0-1) opened the season with a 79-71 overtime loss to Macalester College (2-0).
 
Scoring Summary
First Half

• The Knights jumped out to a 14-7 lead over the Scots five minutes into the game
• A Macalester three-pointer bought the game within four points with 7 minutes remaining in the half
• With just under five minutes in the half Jack Molstead hit a three to put the Knights back up nine
• Molstead hit a jumper at the end of the first half to give the Knights a 36-32 lead
• Molstead had 16 points in the first half
• Knights shot 45.5% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc

Second Half

• Back-to-back threes from Caleb Williams put the Scots up 44-42 with just over 15 minutes to play in the second half
• Knights kept within one possession over the next five minutes, but couldn't take a lead
• Codey Hicks scored back-to-back field goals to tie the game up at 64 all with 6:44
  • Molstead gave the Knights the lead the next possession
• Despite being down six, Wartburg rallied and took a 64-62 lead with under 1:30 to play
• Macalester tied the game and forced overtime

Overtime

• Macalester jumped out to a quick five-point lead in overtime
• The lead was stretched to nine with just over a minute left to play
• Keagan John scored four points in the final minute and half
• 79-71 final
