No. 12/12 Wartburg Advances to the Second Round of NCAA Playoffs

WAVERLY, Iowa --The No. 12/12 Wartburg football team (11-0 overall) advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Playoffs in the 14-6 win over No. 7/7 UW-LaCrosse (9-2) Saturday.
 
Top performers
  • Hunter Clasen rushed for 200 yards and one touchdown
  • Quarterback Nile McLaughlin threw for 155 yards.
  • Bricen White had 64 receiving yards on three catches
  • Preston Rochforf lead the defense with 12 total tackles
  • Owen Grover followed with 10 tackles and added two pass breakups.
 
Notes/streaks
  • First NCAA Playoff win over a WIAC opponent since UW-Stevens Point in 2008. Wartburg won the First-round game 26-21.
  • The Knights moved their home winning streak to 18.
  • Wartburg has won its last 18 home contests, which dates back to September 29th, 2018 when Simpson defeated the Knights 37-36 in overtime.
  • Wartburg is 52-4 in the last 10 season at Walston-Hoover Stadium
  • The Knights have gone 51 games without losing at home in regulation. The last home Wartburg loss in regulation was to Coe on November 2, 2013 (24-10).
  • Clasen's 255 all-purpose yards set a new NCAA Playoff single game best for Wartburg. The previous mark was 246 set by Cody Kelley against Linfield on Nov. 29, 2003.
