Women's Basketball Survives Overtime Battle With Dubuque

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg women's basketball opened up American Rivers Conference play on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a 78-72 win over the University of Dubuque in overtime.

Scoring Summary
  • First Half
    • The Spartans jumped out to a 12-4 lead early
    • Maggie Wilkins scored the next seven straight points for the Knights to bring the Knights down one point
    • UD led 17-14 after the first quarter
    • The Knights opened the second quarter with back-to-back transition buckets to take a 19-17 lead
    • Wilkins and Taylor Runchey both connected on three pointers to make the score 25-21 with 4:24 left in the half
    • Dubuque cut the lead to one point, but the Knights closed the half on a 7-3 run to take a 34-29 lead into halftime
  • Second Half
    • The Knights stretched the lead to 10 points after three balls from Britney Young and Sara Faber
    • After a 5-0 run from UD to make the score 40-35 Wartburg, Young hit three pointers for the next nine points for the Knights
      • Young hit four three's in the third quarter
    • The Spartans kept fighting back and the score was 54-48 after three quarters
    • A quick 6-0 run tied the game at 64 all with over eight minutes to play
    • Back-to-back three pointers and a layup pushed Dubuque's lead to 62-54
    • Jaedon Murphy stopped the run with a bucket and then Wilkins scored five quick points to cut UD's lead to 64-61 with 4:30 to play
    • The Knights went on a 6-0 run in the final two minutes to force overtime

    • After a UD layup, Murphy hit a three to give the Knights a 71-70 lead
    • Wartburg made 7/8 free throws in overtime and won 78-72
