DAVENPORT, Fla. – Wartburg baseball earned a dominant 13-0 team win over Saint Vincent College on Tuesday, Mar. 1 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Knights are now 2-2 overall and have won back-to-back games.
Game Summary
The Orange & Black put one run up in the top of the first inning after
Zach Walton brought in
Zach Wesolowski with a single. After a scorless second inning, Walton hit a two-run shot in the top of the third to make the game 3-0, with all three runs batted in by Walton.
After three scoreless innings, the Knights broke the game open in the top of the sixth when
Max Goodhue brought in a run with a double that scored one and advanced the baserunners. Just one at bat later, Walton hit a triple that scored three more runs to make the score 7-0.
The Orange & Black closed the game with a big seventh inning that started with an RBI single from
Cole Wessling.
Eliot Jurgensen tripled the next at bat to bring in two more runs and then Goodhue doubled again to score Jurgensen making the score 11-0. Wesolowski doubled to score Goodhue and
Ben DeKruyf singled for the Knights' last runs of the game.
Dreyton LaVeine earned the win on the mound and pitched a complete game shutout in his first start of the season. The sophomore struck out eight today and only allowed one hit in seven innings pitched. LaVeine struck out the last two batters in the bottom of the seventh to close out a 13-0 victory.
Walton finished the contest three for four with a homerun and a triple that resulted in a team-leading six RBI's. Wesolowski finished the game going 4/4 with one walk and one run batted in for the Knights.

Wartburg will continue play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Thursday, Mar. 3 when they face MSOE for a third time. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. central time.
