Knights Win 10-0 to Begin Three-Game Series

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg baseball got its three-game series with St. Olaf underway on Saturday, Mar. 19 with a 10-0 win in seven innings. The Knights move to 7-6 overall after the win.

Game Summary
The Knights began the game with two hits in both the bottom of the first and second innings, but were unable to convert runners into runs as they left four stranded through two innings.

Dylan Gotto got the start on the mound for the Orange & Black and he recorded five strikeouts through the first two innings. The senior did not allow a hit until the third inning and it would be his only of the outing.

The top of the fifth inning was all Gotto as he struck the first two batters out and then he ended the inning with a grounder back to him that he brought in behind the back. In the bottom of that inning, the Knights offense exploded for nine runs off eight hits and two errors.

Keaton Gray got the big inning started with a single and then was batted in by Carter Stubitz for the first run of the game. After singles from Will Armstrong and Eliot Jurgensen, Max Goodhue doubled to right field to score two runs and move Jurgensen to third. Jurgensen scored from a fielder's choice to make the score 4-0. Ben DeKruyf singled to left to bring in another run and then a Gray RBI double cleared the bases for 3 RBI. Goodhue picked up his third RBI of the inning after being walked with the bases loaded to make the score 9-0.

Gotto retired the top of the sixth 1-2-3 and then was replaced by Kyle Thompson to start the seventh. Thompson closed the frame with only one hit given up making it 9-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Jurgensen recorded the final RBI with a single to left that scored Gray to secure a 10-0 win in seven innings.

Game Leaders
Gray led the Knights at the plate with a 4-4 3 RBI performance. The sophomore third basemen scored three runs on the bases and recorded one of Wartburg's two extra-base hits.

Goodhue finished the contest 2-3 at the plate and brought in three RBI as well. The outfielder was walked once and recorded the other extra-base hit for the Knights' offense.

Gotto went six innings in the winning effort and struck out a season-high 11 batters. The senior allowed just one hit and walked no batters for the Orange & Black. Gotto moves to 2-2 in starts this season.
