MADISON, Wis. – Wartburg lacrosse fell on the road to Edgewood College 8-7 in an overtime battle on Saturday, Mar. 26 to move to 2-6 overall.
Game Summary
Edgewood found the net first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead three minutes into the first quarter.
Ellie Johnson scored the first goal to tie it up and then teammate
Britta Solheim scored to make it 2-1 Wartburg with just over six left in the period. The Eagles tied it back up less than a minute later but the Knights closed the quarter with two goals to take a 4-2 lead. The first of the two goals came from Johnson and was assisted by
Kirsten Mahoney. The second goal was from
Lindsay Langford and was assisted by Solheim.
It was all Knights in the second quarter as they scored three goals and held the Eagles to none. Solheim scored from a free position shot to make the score 5-2 and then minutes later
Bri Greiskalns beat the goalkeeper to push the score to 6-2. Mahoney scored her second goal of the season after an assist from Solheim to close the half with a 7-2 lead.
Edgewood came out firing in the third period and had a 3-0 run of their own throughout the third quarter. The Knights had opportunities to score but could not find the net in the third. Wartburg led 7-5 going into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles scored from a free position shot and then a man-up goal to tie the game at seven with seven minuetes left of regulation. Neither offense could score in the final minutes of the fourth despite shots on goal from both sides.
Overtime was less than one minute long after the Eagles scored their sixth unanswered goal to secure the win in overtime.
Game Leaders
Solheim led the Orange & Black in total points with four after a team-high two assists and tying with Johnson for a team-most two goals. Solheim added one draw control and two groundballs in the contest.
Greiskalns led the Knights in groundballs with five, caused turnovers with three, and draw controls with eight. The junior midfielder/attacker scored one goal today as well to bring her season total to 30.
Brittney Shipman made her first start of the season and clocked 66 minutes in goal today. The second-year goalkeeper recorded seven saves in the loss.

The Knights continue non-conference play with a home match against Trine University on Sunday, Mar. 27.
