PELLA, Iowa – Knights baseball held on for a 3-2 win over Central College on Friday, Apr. 1 behind a complete game start from senior pitcher

Game Summary
The Knights got one hit and drew two walks in the top of the first, but Central stranded two Knights runners to keep the game 0-0 early. In the second inning, the Orange & Black had runners on again, but this time scored after an error and a
Max Goodhue double to make the score 2-0 after two innings.
After singles from
Zach Walton,
Caleb Andrews, and
Keaton Gray the Orange & Black scored again when
Bryce Butler hit a sacrifice fly to left to make the score 3-0. The Dutch responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third after multiple hits to make the score 3-2. Both teams got a hit in the fourth but were unable to bring any runs across.
The Orange & Black were held hitless in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning, but the Knights defense held the Dutch to just two hits and no runs over those innings to keep the score 3-2 Wartburg heading to the eighth inning. Gotto continued pitching through the eighth inning, where he allowed one hit and stranded two runners to send the game to the bottom of the eighth inning.
Wartburg went three up and three down in the top of the ninth while holding on to a 3-2 lead. Gotto stayed in to start the ninth inning and allowed a leadoff double, but quickly got out of the early jam with a double play pop out. The Dutch grounded out to end the game and the Knights held on for a 3-2 win.
Gotto pitched a complete game and earned his fourth win of the season today. The senior ace recorded six strikeouts and allowed two runs off nine hits. Gotto's record as a starter is now 4-2 and he has pitched a total of 40 innings this season.
Goodhue finished the contest two for five at the plate and hit the only extra-base hit for the Orange & Black. He recorded one of the teams two RBI and stole one of the team's three stolen bases today.
Butler recorded the other RBI for the Knights with his sac fly in the third inning and he finished 1-3 at the plate. Andrews went 2-4 at the plate and scored after he stole third and an error brought hm home.
Next Time Out
The Knights will continue the series against Central on Saturday, Apr. 2 with a doubleheader set to begin at 12 p.m. in Pella.
