CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—Ella Link hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning as the Wartburg College Knights split the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) series with Coe College.
 
The Knights (18-8, 5-3 A-R-C) took game one 8-6 as Link scored two home runs in the game. The Kohawks of Coe (12-6, 2-2 A-R-C) held the Knights to three hits in game two, taking game two 5-0.
 
The Knights split the two-game series for the first time since 2017. The Knights went 1-2 in the three-game series last season.  
 
Game One Recap 
 
Link put the Knights on the board in game one with a two-run home run, bringing home 
Olivia Brecht. The Kohawks tied the game up at two with a two-run home run in the second.
 
Lauren Frerichs and 
Hannah Happ added runs in the third and fourth innings as the Knights pitching allowed only three hits during that game stretch.
 
The Kohawks took the lead in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on one hit.
Brecht hit a single in the sixth inning as 
Kaylie Springer scored the tying run. Link hit her seventh home run of the season (team-leader) as Brecht and 
Sydney Illg scored on the hit. The Kohawks threatened once in the sixth, scoring one run off two hits.
 
Ashley Nelson pitched her fourth complete game of the season, allowing six runs off eight hits. Nelson recorded four strikeouts and faced 34 batters.   
 
Game Two Recap
 
Frerichs singled for the first hit of the second game as Happ hit the second single of the game for the Knights in the third.
 
The Kohawks scored one run off three hits in the bottom of the third as the Kohawks defense kept the Knights off the scoreboard. The Kohawks added three runs in the fifth as the Knights went 1-2-3 in the sixth.
 
A home run in the sixth sealed the game for the Kohawks, stopping the Knights four-game winnings streak.
 
Carly Salutric started in the pitchers circle for the Knights, pitching 4.1 innings and recorded five hits.
 
Moving in the Record Book 
 
With her 19 runs scored this season, Illg has moved to No. 4 in the record book for career runs. Illg needs 19 runs to pass Ashley Rogers (143 runs).
 
Illg, who has recorded two triples this season, is three away from cracking the Top-10 in the career record. Illg leads the record book for most hit-by-pitch has added to her record (35) as Frerichs is tied for fifth with eleven HBP.
 
 
NFCA Watchlist
 
Link landed on the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Watchlist for Player/Pitcher of the Year. The Top-25 will be announced in May with the finalists being announced following the conclusion of the 2022 season.
 
 
Road Warriors
 
The Knights continue action on the road with their next two series at A-R-C opponents. The Knights visit Loras for a midweek game on April 13.
