WAVERLY, Iowa— Sydney Illg moved into a tie for third in the career runs scored as the Wartburg College Knights were swept by Buena Vista this afternoon.
The Beavers of Buena Vista took game one 8-3 before defeating the Knights 7-5 in game two.
Illg scored a run in each of the games for the Knights, sits at 139 career runs scored. The school record is set at 143 by Ashley Rogers. Illg moved into No. 4 in the career home runs, sitting at 23 homers, and sits at No. 7 in RBIs with 99.
Kaylie Springer moved up the record book, joining a tie for fifth in stolen bases (45). Springer sits at No. 2 with 42 stolen bases in a season, only six off Liz Roby-Miklus's 51 stolen bases in 2019.
Game One Recap
The Beavers defense held the Knights to one hit in the first inning before retiring all three batters in the second.
Illg put the Knights on the board in the third, hitting a triple to right field for 2 RBI for Springer and
Hannah Happ to score. Illg scored on the next at bat, as
Olivia Brecht reached first back on an error by the Beavers defense.
The Beavers took a 7-3 lead in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits. The Beavers held the Knights to four hits in the final innings of the game, scoring their final run in the sixth inning for an 8-3 victory over the Knights.
Game Two Recap
The Knights jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second as
Tarah Wehde scored on
Sydney Fellows double to right center field. Springer hit an RBI single to shortstop for Fellows to cross home plate as the Knights recorded four hits in the second inning.
Wehde hit a 2-run home run in the third, bringing home
Riley Feeley as the Knights took a 4-1 lead. The Knights defense retired the Beavers batters in the fourth.
The Beavers took the lead in the fifth, scoring four runs on three hits for a 5-4 lead. The Beavers retired the Knights batters before hitting a 2-RBI double in the sixth for a 7-4 lead in the sixth.
Illg hit a home run to left field in the seventh for the lead-off batter as the Beavers retired the final three Knights batters.
Next Time Out
The Knights have claimed the No. 4 seed in the A-R-C Conference tournament. The Knights will face No. 5-seeded Luther on May 6 at 2 p.m. in Storm Lake.
