Knights Softball NCAA Run Ends in Decatur

Knights Late Charge Falls Short Against Millikin

DECATUR, Ill.— A late sixth inning charge would fall short as the Wartburg College Knights Softball squad battled inclement weather and the Millikin University Big Blue in the NCAA Super Regionals. The Knights, 30-14, played through several rain delays, dropping the game 10-6 to the Big Blue (37-7).
 
The Big Blue push one across in the second before adding four runs in the third, taking a 5-0 lead over the Knights. The Big Blue added three runs off four hits in the top of the sixth, taking an 8-0 lead.

The Knights offense was held to one hit during the opening stretch of the game.
 
Olivia Brecht (2-of-4) led off the sixth with a double as Ella Link and Lauren Frerichs added a pair of walks to load the bases. After back-to-back outs and a lightning delay, Sydney Fellows (1-of-2) had a 2 RBI single, as the Knights got on the board. Tarah Wehde hit a 2 RBI double and would score on a throwing error by the Big Blue catcher as the Knights trimmed the lead to three.
 
The Knights quickly got an out in the top of the seventh before the games third rain delay push the conclusion of the game to May 22. The Big Blue hit an RBI single when the game resume as the Big Blue pushed two runs across with a throwing error by the Knights.
 
Sydney Illg led the seventh inning off with a double and reached third on a wild pitch. Frerichs (1-of-3) hit an RBI double as Illg scored the final run of the game for the Knights.
 
The Knights made the Super Regionals for the fifth time in school history, reset the record for HBP in a season, and saw several members of the team enter or improve their position in the All-Time records list.
