WAVERLY, Iowa – Knights men's tennis won their quarterfinal matchup against Nebraska Wesleyan University 5-0 on Tuesday, May 3. Wartburg advances to the semifinals to face Coe College in Decorah, Iowa later this week.
Lucas Huffman won his 21st singles match of the season today to set a new single season record.
The Orange & Black started the dual by sweeping doubles play with the teams of Huffman/
Jackson Eells,
AJ Wilkins/
Griffin Steiniger and
Jeff Miller/
Nile Petersen all picking up wins in their respective positions.
Wartburg secured the victory with wins in both the number one and two spot before any other singles matches were finished. Eells won in number two singles to move to 16-8 overall and 7-1 in the number two position.
Huffman added another record to his collection with his win in number one singles today. The win moved the senior to 21-4 this season (all number one singles), which is the most singles wins in a season by anyone in program history. This record comes one day after setting the all-time Wartburg record for number one doubles wins.
The Knights are now 25-8 overall this season and advance to Friday's semifinal against Coe College. Both semifinal games will be hosted by Luther on Friday, May 6 in Decorah, Iowa.
