STORM LAKE, Iowa – Wartburg women's basketball moved its winning streak to six on Saturday, Jan. 14 with a 85-66 win over Buena Vista University. The Knights are now 12-4 overall and move to 7-0 in American Rivers Conference play.
Game Summary
- First Half
- The Orange & Black jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three pointers from Jaedon Murphy and Sara Faber, as well as a layup from Macy Harris
- After Buena Vista scored five unanswered points, Wartburg responded with three straight makes from the field to extend its lead to nine with under five minutes left in the first quarter
- A BVU three pointer brought them within four points but the Knights closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 27-13 lead
- Faber and Maggie Wilkins both connected from deep in the early minutes of the second quarter
- After four free throws made in the quarter from Harris, a Murphy jumper put the Knights up 41-20 with 5:35 left in the half
- Wartburg led 50-23 with under two minutes, but BVU closed the half with four unanswered points to trial 50-27 at halftime
- Second Half
- It was all Buena Vista in the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Beavers came out of halftime and went on a 14-3 run to make the score 53-41
- After a timeout, Murphy connected on a jump shot and then Faber got a steal and layup for a quick four points to reignite the offense
- The Knights maintained their lead throughout the end of the third and finished the quarter with layups from Britney Young and Lauren Woeste that put Wartburg up 71-49
- Wartburg scored the first five points of the final quarter after another Woeste layup and a three pointer from Murphy
- BVU scored eight straight to cut the lead down to 19 with 6:46 to play
- Wilkins made a layup and then Harris scored five straight to end the Knights' scoring drought
- The Knights closed out the game and won 85-66
