Knights Win 2-0 at Home Over St. John's University

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer closed non-conference play at home with a 2-0 win over St. John's University on Sunday, Oct. 15. The Knights move to 8-1-6 overall and remain 3-1-2 in American Rivers Conference play.

  • First Half
    • Each team had opportunities for shots in the first 10 minutes, but neither side put a shot on target
    • The first shot on goal came in the 29th minute, when Edvin Rizvic fired a shot on goal that was saved
    • Seconds later the Johnnies committed a foul that led to a penalty kick chance for Wartburg
      • Curtis Ratzer's penalty kick attempt was saved by the keeper, but Paul Devine played the deflection and scored to put Wartburg ahead 1-0
    • Devine put another shot on goal in the 37th minute that was saved
    • Manuel Raygoza made his first save of the night for Wartburg in the 40th minute after SJU's first shot on goal

    • Gossin had another look in the 73rd minute, but this time his shot was saved by the keeper
    • Both Michael Dunn and Kyle Tremelling recorded shots on goal but the score remained 2-0 with 10 minute to play
    • SJU had a little life in the 83rd minute after a penalty was called, but Raygoza shut down the PK attempt to keep the score 2-0 throughout the finish
