Knights Defeat Nebraska Wesleyan 3-2 Behind Hat Trick from Lauren Kirkle

LINCOLN, Neb. – Women's soccer won an exciting 3-2 match over Nebraska Wesleyan University after Lauren Kirkle scored a goal in the 88th minute to not only give the Knights the win, but also cap off a hat trick performance. Wartburg is now 4-6-1 overall and 2-1 in American Rivers Conference play.

  • First Half
    • Kirkle recorded the first shot of the match in the 17th minute when she fired a shot on goal that was saved
    • Just one minute later, NWU answered with a goal from Averie Hike that just out of reach of Alena Miller
    • The Knights recorded two shots and forced three corner kick opportunities in the 20th and 21st minutes
    • Miller made a save in the 23rd minute
    • After a shot was saved in the 32nd minute, Kirkle beat the keeper with a deep shot in the top of the net in the 36th minute with an assist from Izzy Sash to tie it at 1-1
  • Second Half
    • The Prairie Wolves got an early penalty kick opportunity after a foul in the box on a corner kick in the 47th minute
      • NWU converted to make the score 2-1
    • Sash fired a shot on goal minutes later that was saved by the keeper
    • The Knights tied the match at 2-2 in the 59th minute when Kirkle beat the keeper with a great shot after assists from both Sash and Paige Lienhard
    • Miller made three more saves over the next 20 minutes and the score remained 0-0
    • The Knights drew a foul that led to a free kick in the 88th minute and Kirkle buried the free kick attempt past the keeper to give Wartburg a 3-2 lead and complete a hat trick performance
