No. 7/7 Knights Fall to No. 16/22 Whitman in Top 25 Matchup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 7/7 women's basketball opened play at the Music City Classic with a 85-51 loss to No. 16/22 Whitman College. This is the first loss of the season for Wartburg as they move to 9-1 overall and remain 4-0 in A-R-C play.

  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Whitman got out to a 11-2 lead early in the first before a Britney Young layup cut the lead to 11-4
      • The Blues kept up a hot start and scored the next 13 points to lead 24-4 with just over a minute left in the first
      • Sara Faber made two free throws to stop the run and Jaedon Murphy made a three the next possession to make the score 25-9 after the first quarter
    • Second Quarter
      • The Knights scored first in the second quarter with two free throws from Macy Harris and a layup from Lauren Woeste to cut the Whitman lead to 25-14
      • After a 6-0 Whitman run, Harris made a layup with the foul to make the score 31-17 with just under four minutes to play in the first
      • Young made layups on back-to-back possessions to bring the Knights within 12 points with 1:55 remaining in the half
      • Murphy and Young both made shots late to cut the lead to 10, but the Blues scored at the buzzer to take a 40-28 lead into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Faber and Murphy both scored early for Wartburg, but the Blues had an answer for every basket
      • Whitman extended the lead to 20 halfway through the third quarter
      • Despite baskets from Harris, Young and Murphy the Blues closed the third on a 15-8 run that extended the lead to 69-42 headed to the fourth
