Women's Lacrosse Fall 13-4 in Season Opener

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg women's lacrosse opened the season at home on Sunday, Feb. 19 with a 13-4 loss against William Penn University.
 
Game Summary
  • First Period
    • After almost eight minutes of scorless play, William Penn struck first with a goal
    • Britta Solheim answered for the Knights with a goal to tie the match at one with 5:57 left in the first
    • William Penn scored again, but Wartburg took advantage of a man-up situation before the period ended with a goal from Solheim assisted by Jordan Lorenzen to make it 2-2 after one period
  • Second Period
    • It was all WPU in the second period as they scored three unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the period
    • William Penn continued to control the period with three more goals scored to take an 8-2 lead into halftime
      • Bailee Royal scored four of WPU's six second-period goals
  • Third Period
    • The Knights struck first in the third period when Beka Gershenoff found the net unassisted to make the score 9-3
    • William Penn scored just 20 seconds later and then no goals were scored until 58 seconds left in the third when WPU converted a shorthanded goal

    • WPU started the fourth with two unanswered goals to make the score 12-3 with 11:59 to play
    • The Knights cut into the lead a minute later when Solheim scored her third goal of the match
