No. 14 Softball splits Sunday

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The No. 14 Wartburg softball team (8-7 overall) split its games Sunday at WashU's Tournament. The Knights defeated DePauw 11-6, but fell to No. 23 WashU 3-1 in the finale.

DePauw game:
  • Wartburg took the 1-0 lead in the second.
  • The Tigers plated three in the bottom of the frame
  • The Knights regained the lead in the third as they tallied four runs, thanks in part to a two-run double by Ella Link.
  • The Orange and Black extended the margin with four more runs in the fourth, which included a two-run triple from Reegan Deputy. Wartburg added two more in the fifth to make it 11-3.
  • DePauw added one in the fifth and had a late-game rally in the seventh to cut the margin to five. It had a runner on third with two outs, but the next batter was retired.
  • Kaylie Springer went 4-5 with two runs
  • Link went 3-4 with two RBI
  • Deputy was 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs
  • Lauren Frerichs was 2-4 with one run and two RBIs
  • Sydney Fellows was 2-2 with one run and two RBIs
WashU game:
  • The Bears scored on a two-run double in the first for the early lead.
  • The Knights got on the scoreboard in the fifth on a sac fly.
  • WashU tallied its final run in the sixth on a wild pitch.
  • Springer was 3-4

Next event
The Knights are off from competition until Sunday, March 26 when they host Saint Benedict for their home opener.
