Knights Defeat Coe 2-1 After an 11 Inning Battle

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg baseball started the weekend series against Coe with a 2-1 win at home in 11 innings. The Knights are now 7-8 overall and 2-4 in American Rivers Conference play.
 
Game Summary
  • Gavin Lund got the start on the mound for the Knights and struck out three of the first four batters to begin the game
  • Coe's offense was unable to get a hit through three innings and the score remained 0-0 heading to the bottom of the third
  • Wartburg got the first hits of the game in the bottom of the third when Carter Stubitz and Will Armstrong both singled
    • Coe got its first hit of the game in the top of the fourth but the score remained 0-0
  • Caleb Andrews and Zach Wesolowski both singled to start the bottom of the fourth and then a wild pitch advanced Andrews home for the first run of the game
    • Wartburg led 1-0 after four innings of play
  • Lund stranded a runner on third in the top of the fifth with a strike out and the Knights went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth to keep the score at 1-0
  • Coe tied the game after two hit batters and two walks in the top of the sixth, but Lund and Wartburg escaped a bases loaded jam to keep it tied at 1-1
  • Keaton Gray and Zach Walton singled in the bottom of the eighth, but Coe escaped a runners on the corners jam to send the game to the ninth still tied at 1-1
  • After a scoreless 10th, Jurgensen singled and advanced Sam Nicolino to third before a wild pitch brought Nicolino home to secure a 2-1 win
