Softball season recap

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team finished with an overall record of 25-18 and was 10-6 in American Rivers Conference games under eighth-year head coach, Jamie Mueller.

The Knights won the A-R-C Tournament for the second-straight year to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Orange and Black were sent to Angola, Ind. Regional, hosted by Trine University. The Knights went 2-2 on the weekend and bowed out to Trine, who advanced to the National Championship series.

Reegan Deputy led the team at the plate with her .381 average, 53 hits, and 10 doubles.

Kaylie Springer followed at .336, Sydney Fellows at .333, Ella Link hit .319, and Lauren Frerichs hit .311 to complete those above .300.

Frerichs had a team-best four triples and Link led the team with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. Illg had a team-high 26 stolen bases.

Illg ends her career ranked in 10 career categories: first in runs (171), assists (482) and stolen bases (120), second in games played (173), games started (173) and double plays (36), third in home runs (27), fourth in hits (184) and RBIs (114), and fifth in on base percentage (.450).

Frerichs ends her career ranked sixth in stolen bases (48), ninth in RBIs (96), and 10th in slugging percentage (.573) and runs (1-3).

Link is fourth in home runs (26), and eighth in RBIs (100). Springer is fourth in stolen bases (68),

Ashley Nelson earned 13 wins in the circle, as she pitched 143.1 innings with 91 strikeouts. She is fifth in games started (55), seventh in wins (36) and appearances (79), ninth in innings pitched (349.2) and strikeouts (186).

Deputy and Link earned First-team All-Conference honors, while Fellows and Frerichs were Second-team selections.

Deputy was later named First-team All-Region and Frerichs was tabbed Third-team. This was the first career honor for Deputy and second of her career for Frerichs, as she was previously honored in 2021.

This is the eighth-straight year the program has had at least one honoree.
