COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Wartburg volleyball team (1-1 overall) split its opening matches at the Pikes Peak Challenge hosted by Colorado College Friday. The Knights defeated Hardin-Simmons 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25), but fell 3-1 to Augustana (20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18).
Top performers
Hardin-Simmons match:
- Abby Hamann had a career-high 16 kills.
- She finished with a double double with 13 digs.
- Allison Feigenbaum completed those in double digit kills with 10.
- Emerson Kracht had 13 set assists and nine kills
- Brooklyn Buysse had 19 set assists in her collegiate debut.
- Wartburg recorded 14 service aces.
Augustana match:
- Feigenbaum 14 kills
- Kracht tallied a triple double with 12 kills, 21 assists & 11 digs
- Hamann led the team with 12 digs
- The Knights held the team advantages in hitting percentage, kills, assists, and digs
Notes/streaks
- The Knights were two service aces shy of the single match record. The mark of 16 was set against Illinois-Springfield on Oct. 28, 2005.
- Hamann, Kracht, and Feigenbaum all led the team with three service aces.
- This was the inaugural meeting with Hardin-Simmons
- This was Feigenbaum's third-straight match with double digit kills (dating back to last season)
- Peyton Robinson, Alexa Melcher, Whitney Klyn, Norah Erickson and Buysse all made their college debuts.
