WAVERLY, Iowa—The No. 5 Wartburg football team won its season opener 62-35 over Monmouth College Saturday night.

With the win, the Knights earned their 100^th win at Walston-Hoover Stadium and moved to 15-0 in night home openers in the Walston-Hoover Stadium era (since 2001).

Top performers

• Hunter Clasen rushed for 247 yards and six touchdowns.
• Nile McLaughlin threw for 240 yards and one TD.
• Drake George was his top receiver with four catches for 78 yards.
• Thor Maakestad had three catches for a team-high 89 yards and one TD.
• Owen Grover led the defense with 12 tackles
• Justin Grieff had a team-best 2.0 TFLs
• Dawson Rud made his collegiate debut and had 11 carries for 61 yards.
• Parker Rochford had three interceptions and one for a pick six.

 
Notes

• Clasen broke a 26-year old school record with his six rushing touchdowns. Trevor Shannon previously held the record with his five set against Augustana in 1997.
• Clasen set a new career mark in rushing yards.
• Rochford tied his career high in INTs
• His three INTs also tied the single game school record which he previously tied last season at Dubuque.
