No. 3/4 Wartburg travels to face Simpson

WAVERLY, Iowa-- No. 3 Wartburg (3-0 overall, 1-0 American Rivers Conference) travels to face Simpson (1-2, 0-1) Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Series
Wartburg owns the all-time series at 48-27-2 which includes eight of the last nine, and the last three-straight. 

Wartburg
Hunter Clasen leads the team on the ground with 434 yards and nine touchdowns. Nile McLaughlin has thrown for 674 yards and six scores.

Thor Maakestad leads the receivers with 185 yards on seven catches and two TDs while Drake George follows with 176 yards on 10 catches and one score, and Carter Henry has 159 yards on 11 catches and one TD.

Owen Grover leads the defense with 27 tackles and Justin Grieff follows closely with 19. Jordan Downing leads the team with 5.0 TFLs. Parker Rochford has four interceptions to date.

Clasen is fourth in all purpose yards (4,276), fifth in total TDs (42), in rushing TDs (40), and in points (252), and ninth in rushing yards (2,867) and kick return yards (866).

McLaughlin is eighth in pass completions (333) and ninth in passing TDs (36). Cael O'Neill is sixth in field goals (16) and 10th in PATs (66).

Ben Bryant is third in punt return yards (69) and 10th in punt returns (48).

Rochford is tied for third in interception return TDs (2). Grover is seventh in total tackles (277) and eighth in solo tackles (158).

Downing is second in fumbles forced (5), tied for fourth in sacks (23), and eighth in TFLS (37.5).

Hunter Clasen is 1st in total touchdowns (9), 1st in total points scored (54), 1st in rushing touchdowns (9), tied for 1st in scoring (18.0), 2nd in rushing yards (434), 3rd in rushing yards per game (144.7), 24th in yards per carry (6.89), 24th in all-purpose yards (150.00), 32nd in points responsible for (54) and 42nd in points responsible for per game (18.0).
 
Nile McLaughlin is 52nd in passing yards (674), 53rd in passing touchdowns (6), 56th in passing yards per completion (14.04), 57th in yards per pass attempt (8.42), 79th in passing efficiency (145.5), 80th in points responsible for (36), 80th in passing yards per game (224.7), 96th in completion percentage (0.600) and 99th in total offense (224.7).
 
Jordan Downing is tied for 17th in fumble recoveries (1), 19th in forced fumbles (0.67), 73rd in tackles for loss (1.7) and 82nd in sacks (0.83).

Simpson
Quarterback J Jensen III has thrown for 1,076 yards and 11 TDs. Reed Worth leads the receivers with 329 yards and five TDs, while Cole Staska follows with 280 yards and two scores.

Desmond Alexander has rushed for 161 yards and Danny Rankins Jr. follows with 111 yards. 

CJ Hangartner and Wyatt Schaben co-lead the defense with 22 tackles.

First-year head coach, Reed Hoskins, is a 2006 Wartburg graduate, and teammate of current Wartburg head coach Chris Winter. He was the starting quarterback for the Knights three seasons, and earned Second-team All-Conference recognition as a sophomore. He still ranks fifth all-time in career passing yards (6,433), passing touchdowns (56), pass completions (489) and pass attempts (864). From 2008-11, Hoskins was the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at his alma mater, and helped guide the Knights to league championships in both his first and last seasons in Waverly.
