Big fourth quarter propels No. 3/4 Knights past Kohawks

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 3/4 Wartburg football team (5-0 overall, 3-0 American Rivers) used a 13-point fourth quarter to earn the win over Coe (4-1, 2-1) Saturday.

The first quarter looked like it would be scoreless until the Kohawks intercepted a pass and returned it 87 yards for the score with nine seconds left in the frame. Coe scored on its first drive of the second quarter to make it 14-0.

The Knights answered on their next drive on a 25-yard scoring pass from Nile McLaughlin to John McConohy to get on the scoreboard. The Kohawks started their next drive on their own 29-yard line, but on the first play, Parker Rochford intercepted a pass at the 37-yard line and returned it for the score to tie the game at 14 all.

Late in the third, deep in Coe's own territory again, Jordan Downing came down with the ball to set up the short field for the Orange and Black. Hunter Clasen capped off the short scoring drive on his three-yard score at the start of the fourth quarter to knot the game once more at 21-21.

After the Kohawks went three and out on their next two drives, Wartburg got the ball back on Coe's 32 yard line. Clasen had the go-ahead score from nine-yards out to end that drive.

On its final drive of the day, after a seven-yard sack by Downing, the Kohawks attempted long passes, but fell incomplete.
