No. 12/12 Knights Defeat BVU 80-61 on the Road

STORM LAKE, Iowa – No. 12/12 women's basketball defeated Buena Vista 80-61 on Sunday afternoon in Storm Lake. The Knights improve to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in American Rivers Conference play.
 
Game Summary
  • First half
    • First quarter
      • The Knights got the scoring started early as Sara Faber scored five quick points to open the game followed by a layup from Taylor Runchey and a deep ball from Jaedon Murphy to put Wartburg up 10-5 2:30 minutes into the game
      • Lauren Woeste and Murphy answered a BVU three with layups to put the Knights up 17-11 with two minutes left in the quarter
      • The first quarter was finished with a pair of free throws made by Murphy and Britney Young to give the Knights a 21-13 lead after the first
    • Second quarter
      • After a slow start to the quarter, Young connected on a three and Faber made a layup to push the lead to 26-15 Knights with seven minutes left in the half
      • Woeste and Murphy continued the scoring for the Knights with the next six points to give Wartburg a 32-19 lead with 2:34 left
      • Wartburg ended the half on a 6-4 run with Faber scoring all six for the Knights to take a 38-23 lead into halftime
  • Second half
    • Third quarter
      • Wartburg started the half with seven quick points from Faber (5) and Murphy (2) to put the Knights up 20 to start the second half
      • The next 10 points for the Knights came over a 3:16 stretch with a three-pointer from Young, three-point play from Woeste, and free throws from Lauren Golinghorst and Faber to make it 55-36 with 3:52 left in the quarter
      • The Knights finished the quarter on a 6-2 run in the final minute with three points from Finley Fitzgerald and free throws added by Woeste and Faber to give Wartburg a 61-42 lead
    • Fourth quarter
      • Faber added to her point total with a three-point play followed by a three-pointer by Young to make it 67-45 early in the fourth quarter
      • Fitzgerald connected on a three and Runchey made a layup to put the Knights ahead 72-52 with five minutes left in the game
      • Grace Hennessy added to the Knights lead with a three-pointer while Faber added a three-point play to make it a 23-point game with 3:40 remaining
      • Hennessy finished off the game for Wartburg adding a layup to give the Knights an 80-61 win
