Big Second Half Lifts Luther Over Men's Basketball

DECORAH, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to Luther College 80-59 Wednesday night. The Knights are now 3-16 overall and 2-8 in American Rivers Conference play.
 
Game Summary
  • First half
    • Marshun Williams answered a quick Luther score with a layup, followed by a three pointer from Gabe Trujillo to lead 5-4, four minutes into the game
    • Wartburg added a 7-0 run over the next minute, with layups from Luke Ladwig and Williams and a three-pointer from Isaac Besh, before Luther scored five unanswered to make it 12-11 Knights with 13 minutes to play in the half
    • Ladwig scored the next six for the Knights, followed by a three from Carter Cuvelier to cut the lead to one with 8:49 remaining
    • Besh stopped a 5-0 Luther run as he connected on another three to cut the deficit to three with 6:39 left in the first
    • Ladwig added a 5-0 run of his own to tie the game at 29, but Luther added five more unanswered and led 34-29 with two minutes remaining in the first
    • Williams made a layup to finish the half as Luther led 34-31 at halftime
  • Second half
    • Williams stopped a Norse 10-0 run to start the half with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 11, four minutes into the half
    • Ethan Yungtum added four points for the Knights, while Ladwig made a jumper to make it a 10-point game with 14 minutes remaining
    • Cuvelier added three points from the line to cut the lead below 10, but Luther responded with a three-pointer to push their lead back to 10
    • Luther retained their lead with a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to go ahead 67-47 with just over six minutes to play
    • Trent Allard made a jumper followed by a three-pointer from Besh, but Luther matched the scoring as the lead remained 20 with three minutes to play
    • Cuvelier scored four from the line and Yungtum made a layup to make the final score 80-59 Luther
