Men's Basketball Fall on the Road to No. 24 Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to the No. 24 ranked University of Dubuque (12-0, 4-0 A-R-C) 81-64 on the road tonight in American Rivers Conference action. Wartburg is now 2-11 overall and 2-3 in A-R-C play. 
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • After a Luke Ladwig jumper started the Wartburg scoring, Trent Allard added four points but the Knights fell behind early 14-6
      • UD started 4/5 from three
    • Gabe Trujillo and Ladwig both scoring to cut the lead to four points and then Richie Rosenblum hitting a three to cut the lead to three, but Dubuque held on to its lead with three-point shooting
      • UD led 21-17 after a Carter Cuvelier layup with 9:59 remaining in the half
    • The Spartans went on a 7-0 run to take a 28-17 lead minutes later
    • Wartburg went on a run of its own after Trujillo went 1/2 at the line, Ethan Yungtum scored four straight before Trujillo converted a three point play to cut the deficit to 28-25
      • A Ladwig three ball tied the game at 28 and capped off an 11-0 Knights run
    • It was all Dubuque in the closing minutes of the half as the Spartans took a 34-28 lead into the break after a 6-0 run
  • Second Half
    • An Allard basket in the paint and a three-point play from Yungtum cut the Spartans lead to three early, but UD held on to its lead and led 40-33 with 17:53 to go
    • The Spartans lead grew to 62-47 with just over 10 minutes remaining despite three pointers from Cuvelier, Ladwig and Yungtum
    • UD went on an 11-2 run to go up 73-49 until three Isaac Besh free throws stopped the run
    • Garrett Hempen scored a floater to make the score 75-55 with 4:50 remaining
    • Jalen Miller and Jayden Maten both connected on three pointers in the final minutes to make the final score 81-64
