Coach's comments:
"This was the first event of the year where they completed in any doubles or super sporting so they had their work cut out to practice and prepare for this event over the course of the last two weeks," said head coach
Wyatt Hambly. "This was a new facility for most athletes to shoot at, so they were excited to see the grounds and targets being thrown. I have to say, this is the best competition I have seen from the group. Given we took nine athletes, we were able to post exceptional score in every discipline. This regional event brought together the best teams in the country, and we stood our ground battling the good scores being posted."
Tristan Straight had an amazing weekend as he posted a 422/450, tying for 31st of 165 athletes. Tristan was consistent with his scores, and was crushing targets in every discipline, having the team's highest score in sporting clays and tied in skeet. He additionally posted a top-five score for our team in every discipline.
Cody Sharp,
Case Harmston, and
Tyler Portwood also shot lights out, bringing in high 90s and 40s in almost all disciplines.
With a team score of 488/500 in skeet, and a 1,408 total team score in the main three disciplines, I believe this is a record-setting weekend for the teams score in the main three disciplines. A score in the 1,400's is a great step in the right direction, especially at a major shoot like this one. I am proud of all of the athletes who attended this event for their scores, attitudes, and adaptation to changes and running around. This was overall a fantastic weekend, increasing our confidence and abilities going into the state tournament in a couple of weeks.
