No. 2/2 Knights Defeat Edgewood 74-35 at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 2/2 Women's basketball dominated on its home floor in a 74-35 win over Edgewood College on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to move to 4-0 overall to begin the 2024-25 season.

  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Sara Faber scored the first point of the night at the free throw line
      • A Lauren Woeste layup, assisted by Lauren Golinghorst extended the Knights 8-0 run to extend the lead to 13-5
      • Maggie Wilkins got in the scoring column with a floater, followed by another Lauren Woeste layup to finish the quarter leadings 19-7
      • Sara Faber led the Knights with seven points and five steals heading into the break
    • Second Quarter
      • After an early basket from Jaedon Murphy, Lauren Golinghorst scored the next five for the Knights to make the score 26-7
      • Woeste, Murphy and Faber all scored over the next five minutes of play to keep Wartburg in front 34-16 with 2:55 to play in the half
      • Faber and Grace Hennessy both scored in the paint to close the half with a 39-16 lead
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Murphy got the half started with a steal on the first possession that she took coast-to-coast for a layup
      • After an almost three minute scoring drought from both sides, Natalie Bearbower stopped the drought at the free throw line to make the score 46-25 with just over four minutes left in the quarter
      • The Knights closed the quarter on a 10-2 run led by eight points from Faber, who connected on two three pointers in the final 1:25 of the third
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Faber started the fourth with a steal that she turned into a three-point play on the other end to make the score 59-27
      • Bearbower scored in the paint and then both Jenna Saunders and Golinghorst connected from deep to push the Wartburg lead to 69-29 with 5:15 to play
      • Ava Trettin, Emma Townsley and Faith Trelka all scored in the closing minutes for the Knights in a 74-35 win
