Men's Soccer Defeat Central 1-0 to Advance to A-R-C Tournament Final

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer defeated Central College at Salzwedel Field in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament Semifinals.
 
With the victory, Wartburg advances to the A-R-C Tournament Final, which will be hosted by Wartburg on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Lwings Kabula and Landon Hartsell recorded the first shots of the match with off-target shots in the first six minutes of play
    • Andrew Valenzuela fired a long shot on goal that was saved in the ninth minute
    • Kabula tried to break the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute, but his shot was saved by the Central keeper
    • The Knights defense didn't allow a shot on goal in the half and the score remained 0-0 headed to halftime
  • Second Half
    • A Carson Kay blocked shot led to a corner kick in the 54th minute, where Flori Gembo sent a corner into the box that was finished by Kay to put Wartburg ahead 1-0
    • The Knights played shorthanded from the 67th minute on
      • Wartburg's defense was able to hold off Central to keep the Knights in front 1-0 for the win
    • Henry Eckert made two saves in the final 10 minutes to keep Central off the board
