Caleb Ferguson named assistant cross country coach

WAVERLY, Iowa—Caleb Ferguson has been named an assistant coach under Wartburg College director of cross country and track and field, Marcus Newsom, and cross country head coach Ryan Chapman, as announced today.

Ferguson comes to Wartburg from Calvin University where he has served as an assistant cross country and track and field coach for the past two seasons.

"We're very excited to bring Caleb Ferguson into the Wartburg cross country and track and field family," said Chapman. "He has a plethora of skills that will help us immediately, from his national experience to his recruiting acumen. This hire will immediately help our programs continue to excel on both the regional and national levels."

"I am so excited to join a program that has already seen so much success, while doing things the right way," said Ferguson. "I know this will be an excellent opportunity to continue to grow my skills and knowledge as a coach, while at the same time serving student-athletes in a sport for which I have so much passion."

Prior to Calvin, Ferguson spent two seasons as an assistant coach for cross country and track and field at Millikin University.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Calvin in 2020 and his MBA from Millikin in 2022.

Ferguson was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field teams at Calvin and was an All-American in 2018 in the 3000m steeplechase and in 2020 in the indoor 3000m. He is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic award winner in cross country.

Ferguson holds a USATF level 1 coaches certification and USTFCCCA distance specialist certification.

He will begin at Wartburg on Jan. 6, 2025.
