MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Men's basketball overcame a 27-point deficit behind a 52-point second half from the Knights that led to a 79-72 win over Ursinus College in the Cruzin Classic on Saturday, Dec. 21.
GAME SUMMARY
- First Half
- Gabe Trujillo and Marshun Williams combined for four early points, but the Knights trailed 7-4 after just over three minutes of play
- Ursinus went on a 27-3 run to take a commanding 34-7 lead with 8:34 remaining in the half
- Ethan Yungtum scored five-straight points and Brewer Eiklenborg followed it with a three pointer to cut the lead below 20
- The Knights cut the lead to 15 at halftime after scores from Ladwig, Williams, Trujillo and Yungtum
- Second Half
- Williams scored the first three points of the second half for Wartburg and after five minutes of play the Knights trailed 45-37 following seven unanswered points from Ladwig
- Williams followed the Ladwig run with a three pointer to cut the lead down to 45-40 with 14:39 to go
- Ursinus was able to keep the Knights at a five to eight point deficit until the 9:47 mark when Austin Bienemann scored in the paint and Yungtum nailed a three pointer to make it a two-point game
- Minutes later, Richie Rosenblum and Williams both connected from beyond the arc to give Wartburg a four-point lead (first lead of the game)
- Scoring went back-and-forth was the game was tied up four different times over the next four minutes
- Following a 67-67 tie with 2:57 remaining, Ladwig scored in the paint and Trujillo made a three pointer to put Wartburg ahead five with 1:16 to go
- The Knights closed out the 27-point comeback with a 79-72 win
