No. 2/2 Women's Basketball Hold Off Wisconsin Lutheran 62-55

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 2/2 Wartburg women's basketball got back into the win column today with a 62-55 home victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Sunday, Dec. 29.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • The Knights opened the game on a 6-0 run in the first 2:15 of play after four points from Jaedon Murphy and a basket from Lauren Woeste
      • Two Murphy free throws made it 8-0 before the Warriors got on the board with a three pointer with 5:44 left in the quarter
      • Sara Faber found an open Britney Young for three to make the score 11-5, but WLC closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 12-11 lead after the first quarter
    • Second Quarter
      • Murphy split a pair of free throws to tie the game before the Warriors retook a 14-12 lead with 7:39 left in the half
      • Lauren Golinghorst scored the next four points for the Knights, but Wartburg continued to trail 19-16 after four minutes of play in the quarter
      • Wartburg went on a 6-0 run led by five points from Woeste to take a 22-19 lead with 3:44 left in the half
      • The Warriors closed the half on a 7-3 run that put them ahead 26-25 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Faber got the half started with her fourth steal of the game and a fast break layup before finding an open Maggie Wilkins for three to make the score 30-28, Wartburg, two minutes into the second half
      • The Warriors put together a 9-0 run that gave them a 37-30 lead halfway through the quarter
      • After an almost six minute scoring draught, Woeste scored in the paint to cut the lead to five with just over two minutes left in the third
      • Faith Trelka intercepted a pass on the defensive end and then drilled a three pointer on the offensive end to bring the Knights within one point, but WLC scored in the final minute to make the score 38-36 after three quarters
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Golinghorst and Murphy both scored in the paint to begin the fourth, but the Knights trailed 43-40 with 8:33 to go
      • WLC led 45-40 with just under six minutes to play before a Faber free throw and back-to-back Woeste scores tied the game at 45-45 with 4:48 remaining
      • Woeste scored the next four points to make it eight straight for her and give Wartburg a 49-45 lead until Jenna Saunders found Young for a big three ball that put the Knights in front by 7 with 2:34 left to play
      • Wilkins and Faber closed the game at the free throw line for the Knights with six and four made free throws respectively
      • Wartburg held off Wisconsin Lutheran 62-55
