No. 2/2 Women's Basketball Down Loras 80-59 at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 2/2 women's basketball (7-0, 2-0 A-R-C) added another one to the win collum with an 80-59 victory over Loras College (1-6, 0-2 A-R-C) at home in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action on Wednesday, Dec. 4. 
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • The Knights scored the first five points of the game after a Jaedon Murphy three pointer and two free throws from Sara Faber
        • Loras scored the next five points to tie the game with 5:28 left in the quarter
      • Loras took a three-point lead, but it didn't last long as Faber got to the free throw line and Murphy scored in the paint to make it 8-8 with 3:43 left in the first
      • Lauren Golinghorst scored a layup before Maggie Wilkins and Jenna Saunders closed the first with a three pointer each to make the score 16-15, Wartburg in front
    • Second Quarter
      • The Knights opened the quarter on a 7-0 run after baskets from Lauren Woeste, Jaedon Murphy and a three-point play from Faber
      • Grace Hennessy and Murphy both connected from beyond the arc to push Wartburg's lead to 29-16 with 5:12 left in the half
      • Loras closed the half on a 13-9 run that cut the halftime lead to 38-32 with the Knights still in front
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Faber and Murphy picked up where the left off in the first half, as they each scored four points to begin the second half to put Wartburg ahead by nine
      • A Hennessy layup and free throws from Lauren Golinghorst put the lead back to 10 for the Knights, but back-to-back connections for three from Faber extended the lead to 56-39 with five minutes left in the third
      • Faber was able to score three more points at the free throw line in the final minutes of the third to keep Wartburg ahead 59-44 after three quarters
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Wilkins got the fourth quarter started with her second three-point play of the game and then found an open Woeste on the next possession, who made a three-point play of her own to put the Knights ahead by 21
      • Wilkins drove for a score in the paint and then it was Hennessy who scored back-to-back baskets in the paint to make the score 71-48 with 6:37 to play
      • Faber found an open Britney Young in the corner for an open three an then minutes later Hennessy made a three to push the lead to 25
        • The Knights closed out the game for a 80-59 win at home over Loras
