Strong Second Half Leads No. 23 Coe Past Men's Basketball

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to No. 23 Coe College 77-49 on the road Saturday, Feb. 17 in the regular season finale. Wartburg closes the 2023-24 season with a 2-14 record in American Rivers Conference play and 3-22 overall.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Marshun Williams got the scoring started with five quick points in the first minute and a half of play and seven of the Knights's first 10 points scored
      • Wartburg led 10-4 just over three minutes into the game
    • Coe responded with an 8-0 run to take a 12-10 lead before a layup from Carter Cuvelier tied the game at 12
      • A Luke Ladwig three pointer put Wartburg ahead 15-12 with 13:29 remianing, but the Kohawks hit a three on the next possession to tie it back up
    • The Kohawks went on a 7-1 run over the next five minutes to take a 22-16 lead over the Knights
    • Williams scored twice in the paint to cut into the lead, but Coe continued to hold its lead with under five minutes left in the half
    • The Knights continued to fight back as Williams scored again with three minutes remaining and then Cuvelier converted a three-point play to make the score 30-25
      • A late Coe three pointer made the score 33-25 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • Gabe Trujillo and Williams both scored in the opening minutes of the half but Coe still led 37-29
      • Coe stretched the lead to 44-29 with 15:17 left to play
    • Trujillo scored the next four points for the Knights and then Cuvelier scored in the paint to make the score 48-35
    • Wartburg cut the lead to 10 with 10:18 remaining after Richie Rosenblum, Cuvelier and Ethan Yungtum all scored
    • Coe went on a 10-0 run to go up by 20 and then Trujillo stopped the run with two free throws and then a three pointer
    • The Kohawks closed the game on a 15-7 run that closed out a 77-49 win at home
