Second-Half Shooting Leads No. 7/8 Wartburg Past Dubuque 63-51

WAVERLY, Iowa - No. 7/8 women's basketball used a strong defensive performance to beat Dubuque 63-51 Wednesday night. The win moves the Knights to 21-2 overall and 14-0 in American Rivers Conference play.

    • First Quarter
      • Dubuque started the game on a 6-0 run before Sara Faber made two from the line followed by a layup from Grace Hennessy to cut the Spartan lead to four early in the first
      • Lauren Woeste made a layup followed by a pair of free throws from Macy Harris to keep the deficit at four with 3:43 to play in the quarter
      • Lauren Golinghorst made one from the line for the Knights as Dubuque took a 17-9 lead into the second
    • Second Quarter
      • Britney Young started the second quarter with a three-pointer followed by layups from Woeste, Harris and Jaedon Murphy to make it 22-18 Dubuque
      • Woeste made a pair of free throws and Harris converted on a three-point play to cut the deficit to two with 4:06 to play in the half
      • Wartburg ended the final two minutes of the half with two layups from Woeste and one from Murphy as the Spartans go into half up 32-29

    • Third Quarter
      • Murphy ended a 5-0 Dubuque run to start the half with a 5-0 run of her own to cut the Spartan lead to three with 7:14 left in the third
      • Hennessy connected on three straight three-pointers to give the Knights their first lead of the game at 43-39 with 3:37 remaining in the quarter
      • The Knights ended the quarter on an 8-4 run sparked by threes from Taylor Runchey and Young to put Wartburg up 51-47 headed into the fourth
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Woeste started the scoring in the fourth with a layup to give Wartburg a six-point lead
      • The Knights outscored Dubuque 10-2 over the next 2:24 to put Wartburg up 12
        • Lauren Donlea and Murphy connected on three-pointers while Faber and Woeste added layups
      • Wartburg continued their strong defense in the fourth and held on for the win 63-51
